What to do, where to find resources, and where to
post
2_1. Locate, print, and do one of the following
lessons from the ESRI CD.
- Race & Ethnicity / LSN_Race.PDF is the
file that explains how to do the lesson.
- U.S. Landforms / LSN_Land.PDF
- Volcanoes & Earthquakes / LSN_Quake.PDF
Instructions for locating these lessons are in Adobe
Acrobat pdf format. You can view online or download
here. The data
needed for the lessons are on the CD.
2_2. As you are doing this lesson, make notes
on your observations about any aspect of the lesson,
such as inquiry, pedagogy, software functionality, data,
curriculum connections.
2_3. Make a screenshot that illustrates the
point and save it as a jpeg image. Screenshot-making
instructions are included in Tech TIPS.
2_4. Write a paragraph or two describing your
observations. Examples of items you might address include
generating and testing hypotheses; seeing patterns and
making generalizations; effects of scale on patterns
and visualization; categorization; use of layers.
2_5. In your Topical Forums, compose
a new message and give it a subject heading relevant
to the point you want to share with the group. Paste
the text of your message into the message box. Attach
your screenshot image to the message, and send the message.
2_6. Later in the week, choose one or more of
the postings from your Forum group to read and respond
to. When you do this, think of the entire forum group
as your audience, rather than just that individual.
Two techniques you can employ are to
- Use the "quote" option for replying so
that the original text is repeated in your message.
Edit that to just the point you are addressing.
- Begin your message with the greeting "Dear
All," instead of addressing your message only
to the original poster.
2_7. This week, you should start becoming familiar
with one or more of the following additional forums:
Main, Tech Help, Leaders.
