1. What are the Work/Site Alliance - Community Based GIS Education Case Studies?

W/SA Case Studies provide high school teachers and undergraduate faculty an opportunity to learn how
to manage and conduct GIS projects for educational purposes. The Case Studies are based on the experience
of W/SA educators and technologists as they and their students worked on GIS projects for their communities.
The Case Studies provide detailed hands-on exercises using ArcView software and real data from the W/SA
projects. The Case Studies may be used either in a home,classroom or workshop setting by individuals.

2. What kind of materials will I find associated with the case studies?

Case Studies manuscripts are in Acrobat Reader format (*.pdf). You can download them and then print/
read offline.Sample data is compressed in Winzip format (*.zip),You need this data to do the exercises
with ArcView
.

3. How do I setup the data folders for the case studies?

The data for the case studies are compressed in Zip format.Please use Winzip or compatible software
to extract it to the root directory of your hard disk, C: or D:etc.After you extract the zipped file,you
will automatically have sub-directory information on your hard drive.e.g., You can extract the data
for the Preserving Farm Land Project (agland_data.zip) to D:\.The folder "D:\WSATraining\agland\data"
will be created automatically and all data are included.

4. Besides ArcView GIS, do I need any other software to use the Case Studies?

YES, In Preserving Farm Land Project, you will need Xtools, an extension by Mike DeLaune, 
Oregon Department of Forestry.
In Project Management,You need Microsoft Project
In Transporatation and Planning,You need Network Analyst.

5. How do I  install the Xtools extension for ArcView?

Extract the xtools.avx in Xtools.zip to the ArcView extensions directory / folder. Typically, it is some
where like " C:\esri\av_gis30\arcview\ext32".
Then, restart ArcView, you will find Xtools extensions by selecting menu "File | Extensions ...".

6. Where can I  find  additional learning resources on  the Internet?
